The evening before last I was chatting on an IRC channel, the one of bay12, like every day. I usually join 2 channels when I'm online: the one of the AnywhereBB community and the official bay12games channel. I was exchanging useless messages with another user, just for fun. Doing nothing serious. Dicking around. Some other users was talking of something else, but I did't pay attention to that. It happens sometimes. In a channel with many users it can happens that 2 conversations overlap each other for some minutes. Suddenly one of the users busy into the other conversation writes that he's ignoring me.
When you get such message there are 2 possibilities: he's just saying "look dude, from now on I'll pretend you don't exist", or he's setting up his client so that every message he got which is marked as your message, will be automatically discarded.
I asked what was going on, if it was a joke or something. Then a second user joined the 1st. "<username> ignores yayo". It was very late and I was right to quit, but I said that the dey after I'd be back onto the topic.
Said it, did it. The day after, I join the channel and ask for explanation of this. I just read a "who knows" as reply, and I'm not even sure it was for me. (when someone "/ignore"s you, he can't reply because he simply stops getting your messages.)
I said I'd have counter ignored them, but this didn't make me feel better. And by the way I dislike doing it.
After some minutes I said bye and closed the channel.
I didn't joined it today.
Everyone has some kind of allergy. I'm probably allergic at beying ignored.
Actualy there's nothing strange in such option. It's part of all the most used clients. My own too (even if I never use it). It's used in case an idiot joins the channel (it happens, sadly) and perhaps no operators are available to take care of him. You discard the data of that user and voila. Selfservice. It does make sense.
But not even this makes me feel better.
If I was doing something wrong (it can happens) why hasn't that guy just said it to me? "hey, can you stop please?" This would have provided me a way to understand what was my supposed mistake.
It was a couple of month I was visiting that channel many hours every day. No one ever mentioned disliking me or having problems with me (this can happens too actually, nothing strange: we can't always be loved by everyone).
It was also possible to ignore me by silently setting up the client, yes, keeping this personal. But he said it. Not just to me privately, but to everyone on the channel. And without an explanation. And then "click"!
And once ignored, I don't even have the chance to ask for information. It would be like to call a cell phone set up to reply automatically "engaged number". The owner doesn't even notice it.
Even supposing I'm making a mistake, how can I fix it if you don't even give me the chance to do it?
But I suppose it's ok.
Well, I mean, no. It's not. But this is the people.
Just please don't complain once I said fuckyou. :/
